Egypt Arrest of Two Brazilian Men Mocked Online

Egyptian authorities have arrested two Brazilian men, and the case is being mocked online. Commentators contrasted the arrest dominating Egyptian news coverage with the bigger international stories leading elsewhere, including the war in Ukraine, US President Donald Trump, Iran, China and rioting. Critics say the incident shows misplaced priorities or sensationalism in state media.

Why now: The bizarre arrest and the contrast between domestic Egyptian headlines and major world news struck people as absurd.
