Colombia budget cuts threaten transitional justice court
Original: colombia
Colombia is facing criticism over proposed budget cuts that would hit its transitional justice court, the body created to prosecute atrocities from the country's armed conflict. The cuts would also undercut efforts to find victims who were disappeared during decades of war. Observers warn the move could weaken accountability and slow the search for thousands of missing people.
Why now: Proposed cuts to a key post-conflict justice institution have sparked concern among victims' groups and rights observers.
