Anti-coal campaigners launch giant Taylor Swift puppet in Australia
Original: Helping fly the Big Swiftie was glorious! So happy i held her wing on the first flight. Swifties, not coal! # LockTheGat
Activists with the Lock the Gate alliance have flown a large puppet known as the Big Swiftie, modelled on a swift and named after Taylor Swift, on its first flight as part of protests against coal. Participants helped carry it aloft, using the slogan 'Swifties, not coal' to draw young fans into climate campaigning.
Why now: The playful fusion of Taylor Swift fandom and climate activism is capturing attention amid ongoing anti-coal protests in Australia.
