Iran's Araghchi signals openness to talks but vows defence
Original: Araghchi says Iran is ready for diplomacy, but ‘fully prepared to defend ourselves’
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran is ready for diplomacy while insisting the country is 'fully prepared to defend ourselves'. The dual message comes amid ongoing tensions over Iran's nuclear programme and regional security. His remarks are being read as a signal to Western counterparts that Tehran will keep negotiating even as it maintains its military posture.
Why now: Renewed tensions over Iran's nuclear programme make Tehran's stance on talks versus confrontation highly topical.
