PEGI raises EA Sports FC and Pokémon Go ratings to 16 over loot boxes

Original: EA Sports FC and Pokémon Go age ratings bumped to 16 in PEGI loot box crackdown

Europe's games rating body PEGI has raised the age ratings of EA Sports FC and Pokémon Go to 16 as part of a stricter approach to loot boxes and in-game purchases. The change means games featuring paid randomised rewards will no longer carry a 12 rating, affecting two of the world's most popular titles and prompting debate about gambling-like mechanics aimed at younger players.

Why now: Regulators are tightening rules on loot boxes, and the change directly affects two of the biggest games played by children.
