A German satire piece portrays 'Grandma Erna' working the night shift to skewer what it calls Alexander Dobrindt's sleight of hand on the country's skilled worker shortage. The text taps into ongoing debates over migration, demographics, pensions and the labour market, suggesting that waving away immigration will not fix the gaps left by an ageing workforce.
Why now: Debate over migration and the labour shortage in Germany remains politically charged, and satire aimed at a senior politician draws attention.
