Sudan's Drone War Reaches Abyei, Raising Fears for South Sudan's Election
Original: Sudan’s Drone War Reaches Abyei and Puts South Sudan’s Election on Notice
Drone warfare from Sudan's civil war has spread into the contested Abyei region on the border with South Sudan, raising concerns that the conflict is drawing in its southern neighbour. Observers warn the spillover could destabilise Abyei and jeopardise South Sudan's planned elections, adding a dangerous new front to an already volatile border area.
Why now: The expansion of Sudan's conflict into Abyei threatens regional stability and South Sudan's fragile election timetable.
