No Kings Takedown Fuels Debate Over Platform Dependence
Original: The No Kings Takedown Is Why You Shouldn't Rent Your Megaphone from Zuck
Commentators are discussing the removal of No Kings-related content, arguing it shows the risks of relying on Meta's platforms for organizing and amplifying political messages. The piece warns that movements depending on rented infrastructure—Facebook, Instagram—can be silenced at will, whether by accident or deliberate moderation, and urges activists to own their communications channels rather than borrow someone else's megaphone.
Why now: Concern that a major political movement's reach could be cut off by decisions at Meta is sparking debate about platform dependence.
