Bessent says Democrats in Congress could do little to block Trump agenda
Original: Bessent says a Democrat-led Congress could do little to stop Trump agenda
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that even if Democrats won control of Congress, they would have little power to stop the Trump administration's agenda. The remarks, reported by Reuters, land as voters weigh midterm elections that could shift legislative control and reshape the president's ability to advance tax, trade and spending priorities.
Why now: Ahead of the midterm elections, comments from a senior Cabinet official about the limits of congressional checks on Trump's agenda are drawing attention.
