Jimmy Anderson set to retire at 44 after Lancashire contract snub
Original: Jimmy Anderson set to retire from cricket at 44 years old after Lancashire snub new contract offer
England's record Test wicket-taker Jimmy Anderson is reportedly set to retire from cricket at the age of 44, after Lancashire declined to offer him a new contract. Anderson, who ended his international career in 2024 as the most prolific fast bowler in Test history, had continued playing county cricket, and his departure now appears likely to bring a two-decade-plus career to a close.
Why now: Reports that Lancashire withheld a new contract have prompted wide discussion about the veteran bowler's imminent retirement.
