Israel detains dozens of Americans, including congressional candidate, in West Bank
Original: Israel detains dozens of Americans, including a congressional candidate, in West Bank
Israeli forces have detained dozens of American citizens in the West Bank, among them a candidate for the US Congress, according to an NPR report. The detentions of US passport holders raise questions about Washington's response and the treatment of Americans in Israeli custody. The report has drawn attention to the wider tensions surrounding Israel's operations in the occupied territory.
Why now: The involvement of US citizens, including a congressional candidate, makes the detentions politically sensitive and newsworthy.
