Michele Serra comments on Folgore paratroopers in Milan
Original: michele serra
Italian columnist Michele Serra is drawing attention after the ANSA news agency circulated his remarks about 500 paratroopers of the Folgore brigade deployed in Milan, quoted as saying 'Ora controllo e repressione' — 'now control and repression'. The comment frames the soldiers' presence in the city as a shift toward policing and repression rather than defence, sparking debate about the use of the military in urban settings.
Why now: Serra's sharp critique of the military deployment in Milan has touched a nerve in the Italian debate over public order and the army's domestic role
