World Series debuts automated ball-strike challenge system
Original: In the first World Series with ABS, will any hitters challenge?
The World Series is being played for the first time with the automated ball-strike system, which allows players to challenge umpires' ball and strike calls. The open question, raised by MLB.com, is whether any hitters will actually use the challenge during the Fall Classic. Discussion centres on how the technology will shape baseball's biggest stage and whether players will trust or test it.
Why now: It is the first World Series in which the ABS challenge system is available, making the umpiring technology a fresh talking point.
