Argentine artist Leandro Erlich's installation Swimming Pool (2004) is drawing renewed attention at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. The work creates the illusion of visitors standing at the bottom of a full pool, using just 10 centimetres of water above a transparent ceiling. Viewers share images of people apparently submerged while remaining dry, marvelling at how simple the trick is.
Why now: Images of the striking optical illusion are circulating widely and prompting amazement at how the artwork works.
