New essay traces history of nonbinary pronouns in science fiction
Original: In my latest for Reactor, I explore the history of nonbinary pronouns in science fiction, and why I always include nonbi
Author Annalee Newitz has published a new essay in Reactor examining the long history of nonbinary pronouns in science fiction and explaining why they consistently include nonbinary characters in their own novels. The piece, published on Reactor Magazine's site, connects the genre's tradition of imagined futures and alien societies to real-world debates over gender-neutral language in fiction and publishing.
Why now: Ongoing cultural debate over gender identity and representation in literature gives the essay immediate relevance
