Democrats Say Trump Is Using Prosecution Threats to Pressure Election Officials
Original: Democrats accuse Trump of using prosecution threats to pressure election officials
Democrats are accusing Donald Trump of threatening prosecutions against election officials in an effort to pressure them, Axios reports. The charge centres on claims that officials overseeing vote counting and certification could face legal consequences unless they act in Trump's favour. Democrats describe the threats as an attack on the independence of election administration ahead of and following voting.
Why now: Election officials' independence is in the spotlight amid ongoing disputes over voting integrity and Trump's influence on the process.
