Luka Doncic opens Lakers season with MVP expectations

Original: luka doncic

Luka Doncic is dominating NBA headlines as the Los Angeles Lakers open their season. The star took out a full-page ad in the LA Times ahead of Wednesday night's opener, delivered a big scoring performance in a rematch with the Warriors, and publicly set championship expectations for the 2026-27 season. Bettors and analysts are also backing him as an MVP pick, with some tipping the Rockets for most wins in the West.

Why now: Doncic's season-opening debut, full-page ad and bold championship talk have made him the central NBA story of the moment.
