Original: A's new baseball ops president Smith 'so excited to build on' young core
The Athletics have appointed a new president of baseball operations, Smith, who says he is 'so excited to build on' the team's young core of players. His comments signal a commitment to developing the club's existing talent rather than a full rebuild. The Athletics have been one of baseball's least competitive franchises in recent years, so fans will be watching closely to see whether the new leadership changes the team's direction.
Why now: The Athletics have just announced new leadership in their baseball operations department.
