Airbnb scraps checkout chores as cleaning fees draw criticism
Original: About time. Cleaning fees should be banned completely, they're just an excuse to display a lower headline price. # trave
Airbnb has announced it is removing checkout chore requirements for guests, a move welcomed by travellers frustrated with cleaning fees. Critics have long argued such fees are used to advertise lower headline prices before hidden costs are added at checkout. Many say the changes do not go far enough and that cleaning fees should be banned entirely and folded into the displayed price.
Why now: Airbnb's announcement that it is scrapping checkout chores has reignited debate over cleaning fees and price transparency in short-term rentals.
