Scottish ministers have rejected plans to build a golf course on protected land in the Highlands. The decision has been welcomed by conservation-minded commentators, who argue Scotland has ample scope for new courses without developing its rarest and most sensitive environments. Supporters of the ruling say protecting fragile habitats must take priority over leisure development.
Why now: A government decision on a contentious planning application in a protected area has just been announced.
