Biologists push for recognition of the forgotten fungal kingdom
Original: Biologists seek justice for forgotten kingdom of fungi
Biologists are calling for fungi to receive greater attention and protection, arguing that the kingdom of fungi has long been overlooked in science and conservation. The campaign highlights fungi's essential ecological role in decomposing matter and sustaining ecosystems, and urges policy and research efforts to catch up with those devoted to plants and animals.
Why now: Renewed advocacy by scientists for conservation policies that include fungi is drawing attention.
