UK universities are facing accusations that they are silencing students and academics who speak out in support of Palestine. Byline Times reports that, according to Amnesty International, some universities have shared legal strategies and received instructions linked to the Department for Education on how to handle pro-Palestinian activism on campus. Critics say the guidance amounts to suppression of legitimate political speech, raising concerns about academic freedom.
Why now: Fresh reporting on alleged government-linked guidance to universities is renewing debate about academic freedom and pro-Palestinian speech in the UK.
