Call for a Second Draft of the Internet's Declaration of Independence
Original: My Father Gave the Internet Its Declaration of Independence. It’s Time for a Second Draft
A Rolling Stone essay argues it is time to rewrite the internet's founding ideals, invoking the legacy of a parent who helped shape the web's early declaration of independence. The piece contends that the principles once imagined for an open, self-governing online world no longer match today's reality of platform power and concentrated control, and that a renewed vision is needed.
Why now: Growing public debate over platform power and the failure of early internet idealism has renewed interest in rethinking the web's founding principles.
