Kyrie Irving offers to pay Azeez Al-Shaair's fine over Gaza tribute

Original: Kyrie Irving on offering to pay Azeez Al-Shaair's fine: 'Our strength is in our solidarity' https://www. nytimes.com/ath

NBA star Kyrie Irving said he offered to pay the NFL fine handed to Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, who wrote the names of children killed in the war in Gaza on his game gear. Irving defended the gesture, saying 'our strength is in our solidarity' and framing the offer as support for athletes speaking out on the issue.

Why now: A prominent athlete publicly backing another athlete's pro-Palestinian statement in the face of a league fine is drawing attention.
