Data center water use raising concerns worldwide
Original: “Around the world, data center companies claim they will be respectful and considerate neighbors, but too often they hid
Data center companies around the world market themselves as considerate neighbors, but critics say they conceal the full scale of the damage caused by their demands on local resources, particularly water. Discussion is highlighting how the industry's water consumption strains communities where facilities are built, with commentators pointing to excerpts of reporting on the issue as evidence of a wider, underacknowledged environmental problem.
Why now: Growing scrutiny of the environmental footprint of data centers, especially their water consumption in local communities.
