Truck drivers, farmers, fishermen, students and families have joined a protest on Italian highways, waving Italian flags in a show of unity over the rising cost of living. Organisers and supporters say ordinary Italian households can no longer make ends meet by mid-month, and the demonstration is being celebrated by backers as a peaceful, united stand by people who refuse to give up.

Why now: Widespread frustration in Italy over the cost-of-living crisis has brought multiple professional and social groups together in a visible highway protest.
