A court has ordered Donald Trump to appear for a deposition in his defamation lawsuit against the BBC, according to a report in The Globe and Mail. The suit stems from accusations that the broadcaster misrepresented his January 6 speech. Commentators online are treating the development as another escalation in Trump's ongoing legal battles with major media organisations.
Why now: News of a US president being compelled to testify in a defamation case against a major broadcaster is an unusual and high-profile legal development.
