The Pentagon and Lockheed Martin have agreed to a decade-long deal guaranteeing at least 850 F-35 Lightning II fighter jets for the U.S. military. The framework contract is still pending congressional approval and funding. If confirmed, it would lock in one of the largest fighter aircraft procurement commitments in years, securing the F-35 program's production line into the mid-2030s.
Why now: A major multi-billion dollar defense procurement deal affecting the largest fighter program in the U.S. arsenal is drawing attention.
