Trump Asked Musk to Lift Ukraine Starlink Restrictions
Original: Exclusive | Trump Called Musk and Asked Him to Lift Ukraine Starlink Restrictions
The Wall Street Journal reports that Donald Trump telephoned Elon Musk to press him to lift restrictions on Starlink services affecting Ukraine, where the satellite network is critical to military communications. The exclusive has drawn attention because it suggests direct intervention by the US president in the operations of one of his closest allies and highlights how much Ukraine's battlefield connectivity depends on a single private company.
Why now: A sitting president personally lobbying the world's richest man over wartime satellite access touches on questions of influence, private power and support for Ukraine.
