Poets draw parallels between migrating birds and women's movement
Original: Zugvögel! Und wir hier unten, erdverbunden... "A River of birds in migration/a nation/of women with wings.." # birds # m
Posts in German and English are sharing lines celebrating migratory birds — "a river of birds in migration, a nation of women with wings" — contrasting the birds' freedom with the lives of people bound to the ground below. The migration motif is being read by some as a commentary on human movement and immigration, giving the seasonal image a political edge.
Why now: Migrant bird imagery is resonating as a metaphor in current debates about migration and immigration.
