Trump, Twitter and China: some enjoy privileges others do not
Original: Trump, Twitter and China. Some have privileges. http:// bbc.com/news/world-asi a-china-41924747 …
A BBC report highlights the paradox around Twitter and China: the platform is blocked for ordinary Chinese users, yet Donald Trump uses it freely to fire off messages about Beijing, including during his Asia trip. Former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt drew attention to the story, prompting discussion about unequal access to global platforms and the irony of Trump using a banned service to criticise China.
Why now: Trump was visiting Asia and tweeting pointed messages about China while Twitter remains blocked for Chinese citizens, making the double standard a talking point.
