Beijing credited with brokering US-North Korea contact

Original: Beijing has evidently been successful in getting DC into some sort of contact with Pyongyang. Small first step? http://

Former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt says Beijing has apparently succeeded in getting Washington into some form of contact with Pyongyang, citing remarks by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that the United States is in touch with North Korea and ready to talk. He calls it possibly a small first step toward dialogue on the nuclear standoff.

Why now: Reports that the US is in contact with North Korea signal a possible diplomatic opening in the nuclear crisis.
