DNS nonprofit Quad9 to shut down service in France
Original: Quad9 to exit France
Quad9, the Swiss-based non-profit DNS resolver, has announced it will stop providing its service in France. The organisation framed the move in a farewell post titled 'Au revoir France', which is drawing wide attention on Hacker News. Commenters are debating the implications for DNS blocking obligations, censorship, and how users in France will adapt their resolver settings.
Why now: The exit of a major privacy-focused DNS service from France raises concerns about legal pressure on internet infrastructure and censorship.
