Developer shows off project to de-smarten a smart TV
Original: Show HN: Making a smart TV dumb and then smart
A developer has shared a project that takes a smart TV, strips away its built-in smart features, and replaces them with custom smart functionality of the owner's choosing. The project, shared as open source code, is drawing attention from people interested in privacy, ad-free viewing and taking back control over hardware they own.
Why now: Growing frustration with smart TV ads, tracking and unwanted software makes DIY takeovers of TV hardware a popular topic.
