ICC wins top EU human rights prize amid US pressure

Original: Targeted by Trump, International Criminal Court wins top EU rights prize • FRANCE 24 English

The International Criminal Court has been awarded the European Union's top human rights prize, shortly after the Trump administration imposed sanctions targeting the court and its officials over investigations involving the United States and Israel. The award is widely seen as a show of European support for the court's independence at a time when Washington is openly hostile to it.

Why now: The EU is publicly backing the ICC at the exact moment the Trump administration is sanctioning and attacking it.
