Acadia National Park removes Wabanaki sign from sacred mountain
Original: Acadia National Park removes Wabanaki sign from sacred Mountain under the Trump administration
Acadia National Park has removed a sign acknowledging the Wabanaki people from a mountain the tribe considers sacred, a change attributed to the Trump administration. The move is drawing criticism from Indigenous advocates who see it as erasure of Native history from public lands, while the park administration has framed it as part of broader federal policy shifts.
Why now: People are reacting to the perceived erasure of Indigenous recognition on public lands under current federal policy.
