Agora desktop shows off true resolution independence at 4K and 720p

The Agora desktop environment is being shown rendering the same simulated 27-inch desktop at both 4K and 720p, with a zoomed-in pixel comparison demonstrating that higher resolution makes everything sharper rather than smaller. The project targets Linux and FreeBSD and is drawing attention for proving genuine resolution independence in practice.

Why now: Resolution independence remains a long-unsolved problem in desktop computing, so a working demonstration naturally draws interest from developers and Linux users.

• Resolution independence: the same desktop, rendered on a simulated 27" screen, in 4K and 720p. Plus a zoomed-in comparison shot showing the pixels up close and personal. In Agora, more resolution means things get sharper, not smaller. # linux # freebsd # programming · agora_desktop · 4
