Cats on vegan diets show unexpected weight advantage
Original: Cats on vegan diets show an unexpected weight advantage
A new report suggests cats fed vegan diets may maintain a healthier weight than those on conventional meat-based pet food. The finding surprises many owners and veterinarians, since cats are obligate carnivores and vegan feeding is widely considered risky. Experts are urging caution, noting weight alone does not prove a diet is nutritionally complete or safe long term.
Why now: Pet owners are debating whether plant-based cat food could be a safe option, and the counterintuitive weight finding fuels that discussion.
