U.S. Allies Race to Escape SpaceX's Orbit
Original: U.S. Allies Race to Escape SpaceX’s Orbit
The Wall Street Journal reports that U.S. allies are working to reduce their dependence on SpaceX, as governments grow concerned about relying on a single American company, and one tied to a politically polarizing figure, for critical satellite launch and communications services. European and other allied nations are seeking alternative providers for space access. The report is drawing wide attention given Elon Musk's political influence and SpaceX's dominance in the launch market.
Why now: SpaceX's dominance and Elon Musk's political role have made allied governments' reliance on the company a pressing security and sovereignty concern.
