Israeli forces raze Hebron neighbourhood, displacing families
Original: Israeli soldiers raze neighbourhood in Hebron, driving families from homes
Israeli soldiers have demolished a neighbourhood in Hebron in the occupied West Bank, forcing families from their homes. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to 'destroy this place' in retaliation for a militant attack on an army checkpoint. The destruction of Palestinian homes as collective punishment is drawing international criticism and renewed attention to conditions in the occupied territories.
Why now: The large-scale demolition and displacement of families, linked explicitly to a retaliatory vow by Netanyahu, is drawing fresh attention amid escalating violence in the West Bank.
