Brazilians flock to Mastodon amid X ban and US politics

A wave of Brazilian users is joining the decentralised social network Mastodon and similar fediverse platforms after a major exodus from mainstream services. Users are asking English-speaking communities to welcome the newcomers, with many attributing the departure to political tensions and what they describe as US-backed platform interference through Meta, Google and X. Brazilian users have become one of the most visible groups on the fediverse in recent days.
Why now: Brazil's political standoff with major US social media platforms is driving mass user migration to alternative networks.
