German commentators urge readers to 'become the media'
Original: Hate the # media , become the media # Medienkritik mit # PunkRock Attitüde für das Gute Leben für Alle Den Rundumschlag
German-speaking internet users are sharing a sweeping critique of mainstream media, framed with a punk-rock attitude and the slogan 'hate the media, become the media'. The commentary, circulated under the hashtag Medienkritik, bundles texts on the development of the internet, social media platforms, right-wing smear sites, and the bans or restrictions on the left-wing alternative network Indymedia, arguing for independent media making 'the good life for all'.
Why now: Concerns about media bias, platform bans and the state of independent journalism are driving renewed debate about alternative and DIY media.
