Original: “I’ll keep running until the lights go out” | 15th Place Backyard Ultra World Championship
A competitor placed 15th at the Backyard Ultra World Championship, where runners complete a 6.7-kilometre loop every hour and continue until only one remains. Reflecting on the effort, the athlete described the mindset that carried them deep into the race: 'I'll keep running until the lights go out.' The endurance event has drawn wide attention for its brutal format.
Why now: Backyard ultras are surging in popularity as viewers follow how long athletes can survive the last-runner-standing format.
