Original: plaza catalunya
Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, have evicted the occupation of an apartment block in Barcelona's Eixample district, arguing the situation constituted a flagrant offence. The occupants were reportedly linked to the encampment at Plaza Catalunya, where homeless protesters have gathered in recent weeks. The eviction escalates tension around the camp, which has drawn growing attention in the city and debate over how authorities should respond.
Why now: The eviction marks an escalation in authorities' handling of the Plaza Catalunya encampment, a current flashpoint in Barcelona.
