The American west has lost nearly 300 glaciers since the 1960s, and the climate crisis is drastically shrinking the glaciers that remain. Rising temperatures are accelerating ice loss across mountain ranges in the region, reducing a key water source for ecosystems and communities and underscoring the pace of climate change in the western United States.
Why now: New reporting highlights accelerating glacier loss as a visible consequence of the climate crisis.
