Developer Warns of 'Android Crisis' Ahead of Google Deadlines
Original: ‼️ ANDROID CRISIS (69 days left for phase II (-51 days left for phase I)) Phase I - 2026, September 1st deadline Phase I
A developer is warning of an 'Android crisis' with countdowns to two key deadlines: 1 September 2026 and 1 January 2027, calling the second the date 'Android goes off the deep end'. The post references research into Murena FairPhone, a de-Googled device. The deadlines coincide with Google's Play Store developer verification requirements, which critics say will restrict sideloading and free software on Android.
Why now: Android users and developers are reacting to upcoming Google policy deadlines that could limit app installation outside the Play Store.
