Trump claims Denmark 'gave us Greenland'

Original: tv4 nyheter

US President Donald Trump has stated that Denmark 'gave us Greenland', reviving his long-standing interest in the Danish autonomous territory. The remark is drawing attention in Sweden and Denmark, where broadcasters are covering the statement. The US has previously expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, an island rich in minerals and strategically located in the Arctic, which Denmark has repeatedly said is not for sale.

Why now: Trump's provocative claim about Greenland touches a sensitive issue between the US, Denmark and Greenland that keeps resurfacing.
