Original: Southern Africa's first known stenciled rock art found hiding in plain sight
Researchers have identified Southern Africa's first known examples of stenciled rock art, a technique where pigment is sprayed around an object held against the rock surface. The images, previously overlooked in sites already documented, are now being recognised as the region's first evidence of this form of rock art. The find sheds new light on the range of techniques used by the region's ancient artists.
Why now: The discovery of a previously unknown rock art technique in Southern Africa is new archaeological news.
