Mar del Plata ordinance to protect coastal wildlife advances
Original: Mar del Plata advances with an ordinance to protect wildlife on the coasts and regulate the approach of people
Mar del Plata is moving forward with an ordinance to protect wildlife along its coastline and to regulate how closely people may approach animals on the beaches. The measure aims to reduce disturbance to coastal species, particularly during breeding and resting seasons. Environmental news outlets in Argentina have highlighted the proposal, which would establish clear rules for human behaviour near animals on the city's shores.
Why now: Growing concern about human disturbance of coastal wildlife has made local protection rules a talking point.
