Climate change linked to rising US gun violence, analysis finds
Original: Higher temperatures fuel gun violence. Now we know how much is from climate change. https:// grist.org/extreme-heat/high
A new Climate Central analysis quantifies how many shooting incidents can be attributed to human-caused climate change, building on established research showing gun violence rises as temperatures climb. The findings suggest hotter weather driven by warming is already contributing to shootings, and the share is expected to grow as extreme heat becomes more frequent, adding a public health dimension to climate risk.
Why now: It is the first attempt to attribute a specific share of shootings to climate change, tying two major public concerns together.
